Description
Claytonia virginica aka Spring Beauty is a North American native perennial wildflower that is 3-6 inches tall. The flowers fully open are about one half inch across each having 5 petals. It is primarily a woodland plant preferring moist to dry rich loam soil and abundant organic material. One of the earliest of the spring wildflowers they are easy to spot as they stand out from they usual brown leaves on the forest floor. These were photographed in Southeast Michigan in late April.
