One of the first wildflowers that is often overlooked because it is not what one typically thinks of as what is a flower.
Eastern skunk cabbage has the ability to generate temperatures 27 to 60 degrees above air temperature through cyanide resistant cellular respiration. This allows it to melt through frozen ground, this ability puts it in a small group of plants that exhibit thermogenesis.

Michael has had a fascination with photography since childhood, however, later in life it has become a more important aspect of his life. He sees photography as a means to bring the beauty of creation to other people. Life is too valuable and precious to him to just let it pass by. Michael and his wife, Suzanne live in Northern Michigan in a log home on their flower and berry farm. Much of his wildlife photography comes off the farm or location close by it.
