Description
The Wood Satyr or Megisto cymela can be seen in forests, usually a long the edges or in brush-filled openings near wooded areas. They fly with a slow bouncing flight near the ground, between and through grasses, small trees and brush. Often seen in the early morning or late afternoon with their wings open basking while they are perched on tree leaves, some flowers, on fallen branches or on leaf litter. This butterfly prefers habitat that is open, with deciduous trees and marshy areas and with brush cover. In norther climates usually seen in June and July, in Southern climates March through September.
