Description
Standing 40 to 48 inches the Sandhill Crane is among the worlds tallest birds and they have an impressive wingspan of up to 7 foot. They are often seen in large fields or marshy areas. They are a gray bird but often have a rusty color that is due to the feathers being stained by mud while preening themselves. They have yellow to red eyes, the juvenile birds will have yellow eyes. They feed on grains, fruit, insects worms and small amphibians. Their winter migration takes them to the Southern United States and Mexico.
