Description
A pair of Common Merganser ducks swimming along the AuSable River in Alcona County Michigan. They mostly eat fish, however will not pass up aquatic invertebrates, frogs, small mammals or even small birds. The male is the one with the green head, The will nest in a cavity of a large tree, usually an old woodpeckers nest, the nest can be as far as a mile from a lake or river as long as there is a small body of water for the young. The nest can be as high as 100 feet off the ground.
