The Birch Bracket Mushroom (Piptoporus Betulinus) aka- Birch Bracket,Razor strap and Birch Polypore, is a type of saprophytic fungi. This is the most common fungus associated with birch trees. Since it is found where ever birch trees grow it is a fungus that does well in cold climates.
There are many health benefits associated with this fungus and they are grown commercially for this reason. Some of the common uses have been as a laxative when made as a tea and to treat parasitic worms of the stomach and digestive system. It is claimed to have antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties and has been used for treating wounds and pain.
This mushroom also seems to boost the immune system. Research is finding it has the ability to fight tumors such as some Sarcomas and Ehrlich cancers making it important in the field of medicine.
